It was going to be the best birthday ever! My parents
were driving my friend Maddie, Tara and I to Chicago
so we could go see Chicago the musical. All three
of us were completely obsessed with the musical and
couldn't wait to go see it live. The whole way there
we were singing songs from the show and talking about
a lot of different things, mostly boys. Tara was the
only straight one among the three of us, and Maddie is
bi. Although neither Maddie or I are out so we couldn't
talk about that in the car. So both of them talked
about different boys they had kissed or wanted to go
out with while I just sat silent, secretly wishing
that I could go out with Maddie. I had been crushing
on her for at least a year.
We were going to spend the night in a hotel room that
day then my parents were going to drop us off at the
show the next day. All we really wanted to do was
lie around the hotel room watching movies that night.
At around 1am we started talking about girls.
Tara was pretty intrigued by the fact that Maddie
and I both liked girls, and kept suggesting we kissed
each other. I wanted to kiss Maddie so much she was
so pretty that night, just as she was every time I see her.
I knew she wouldn't kiss me though; we had been through
it all before that we would keep everything on a friend
level only as much as it disappointed me.
Tara wanted to ask us some questions about liking
girls and we told her go ahead, but I guess we were
talking a little bit too loud and none of us realized
because we heard the door from the next hotel room
open and close, where my parents were staying, and
within seconds there was a knock on our door.
We all looked at each other hoping they hadn't heard
what we were talking about. My heart was racing when
I went to open the door because I really wasn't ready
to come out yet.
I opened the door and there was my mother standing
there with a look I'd never seen from my mom.
It was pretty obvious she had over heard our conversation
but she looked so surprised. After about two minutes
of her standing there without anyone saying anything,
I finally said "did you want to tell us anything?"
all she said was "oh, um just be quieter and go
to sleep soon."
We went to sleep right away, Maddie ended up holding
me I'll night, though I'm still not sure how that
ended up happening. My parents never said anything
more about what happened even though I know that
they know, but maybe silence is their way of
accepting it. Either way I'm fortunate that it
turned out the way it did, it could have been worse.
Plus Chicago was a really great show!
